Biography
Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon is a distinguished education reformer, former State Minister for Education of Bangladesh, academic, author, and public intellectual, with a long-standing commitment to education governance and skills development.
He completed his secondary education at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Central Boys’ High School and higher secondary education at the Intermediate Technical College (now Government Science College), Tejgaon. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Dhaka, with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiary subjects. During his university years, he was actively involved in student leadership and represented Bangladesh as a member of the National Volleyball Team.
Dr. Milon pursued higher studies in the United States, obtaining an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology. He later earned his PhD in Political Science from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2018. His doctoral research focused on how Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) can influence socio-economic development in Bangladesh, reflecting his long-standing interest in skills-based education and workforce development.
His professional career spans academia, industry, and public service. He began as an adjunct lecturer at Brooklyn College and Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York, later holding senior roles in the pharmaceutical and corporate sectors in the United States. Returning to Bangladesh, he was elected to the Jatiya Sangsad in 1996 and re-elected in 2001 from Chandpur-1 (Kachua). As State Minister for Education, he led landmark reforms, including the Nakal Protirodh Andolon against unfair practices in public examinations and the introduction of teacher registration for recruitment, initiatives that reshaped education governance in Bangladesh.
Dr. Milon is the author of several books on Bangladesh politics, drawing on his direct experience in governance and public policy. He also writes regularly in national newspapers and appears frequently in television discussions on education reform, politics, and socio-economic development.
As Chairman of the Education Reform Initiative (ERI), Dr. Milon continues to advocate for need-based education, skills-driven development, and evidence-informed policy reform to support Bangladesh’s long-term economic and social progress.
